We examine how rural communities affected by large forest fires in Sweden and Spain experience, feel, and respond to vulnerability. From a feminist perspective, we show that emotions and practices of care are central to understanding the impacts of wildfires, challenging the idea of vulnerability as synonymous with weakness. The article explores how emotional experiences, relationships with place, and inequalities between northern and southern Europe shape collective action and create opportunities to transform the future of rural and forest landscapes.
